IndieCork Festival

IndieCork is based in Cork city, Ireland. Our festival focuses on independent film and music. Short film is very close to the heart of the festival, plus independent film, music and media arts. IndieCork has a unique structure. We are a ‘fan-owned’ festival; meaning that our festival is in common ownership, with shareholders. We are the only arts festival in Ireland with this type of organisation. Another aspect of our festival is collaboration, and we are open to working locally, nationally and internationally with national organisations, filmmakers, musicians and artists.

Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema

The Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema is exclusively dedicated to the promotion and exhibition of short-length audiovisual works. The Festival shows works finalized in 35 mm as well as digital format, with a maximum length of 30 minutes, and is both competitive and informative. The program of the festival in 2014 will be made up of: International Competition, National Competition, Latin-American Panorama, Rio de Janeiro Panorama, Special Programs, Retrospectives and a Focus on the works of an invited country, with the objective of exhibition, distribution and production of short-length audiovisual works. The Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema qualifies the winners of its National and International Grand Prix to enter the competition for an Oscar nomination by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Besides showing films, the festival promotes workshops, debates and lectures. Entries for films for the competitions, panoramas and special programs, and all the parallel activities of the festival are free.

Uppsala International Short Film Festival

Founded in 1982, Uppsala International Short Film Festival has since become Sweden’s premier arena for short film, having attained both national recognition of the Swedish Film Institute and genuine international renown. In addition, the festival is the most important international cultural event in Uppsala. Every year the festival shows more than 300 short films in five different sections exploring the diversity and richness of the short film – from new film to retrospective programmes, from fiction film, documentaries and experimental film to animations.

Uppsala International Short Film Festival is recognised by Academy of MotionPicture Arts and Sciences, which means that winning the international or national competition at the festival makes a film eligible for a nomination for an Oscar. Screening at the festival also qualifies Swedish short films for Guldbagge nominations and British short films for BAFTA nominations.

Taking place in the university town of Uppsala at four cinemas located in the city’s classic cinema district, the Uppsala International Short Film Festival is a meeting place for audience, industry and media. The many Swedish and international film makers and other professionals that every year attend are offered an extensive programme of activities that give an insight into Swedish film, culture and history. Buyers, distributors and festival representatives have access to a video library during the festival. The festival offers film makers many opportunities to meet their audience, and discussions are held both at the screenings and at special director´s talks. The festival also hosts a number of parties, and the festival pub is open every night.

Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur

The Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur is Switzerland’s most important short film festival. The festival enjoys an excellent reputation among filmmakers, the industry and audiences alike.
The festival takes place each year in November and attracts an average of 16,000 spectators for our national and international competitions, as well as 650 participants from the film industry.
Kurzfilmtage is a non-profit association committed to recognizing and developing short film by supporting artists in cinema and building audiences for shorts. By compiling innovative programs, its aim is to provide a lively international platform for professional exchange between filmmakers, artists, the industry and the audience. Kurzfilmtage maintaining the largest short film archive in Switzerland, containing about 30.000 short films. The archive is available to industry professionals for research purposes all year round.
In 2013, 16,500 spectators visited the festival and we received over 5.000 submissions for the national and international competitions, which offer cash awards that total in 42.000 CHF (35.000 Euro) and an in-kind award of 11.500 CHF (9.500 Euro).

Nordisk Panorama Film Festival

Nordisk Panorama is the main platform for short films and documentaries in the Nordic region regularly attended by 600 – 800 professionals from more than 20 countries. The event is comprised of Nordisk Panorama Film Festival, Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries, Nordisk Panorama Market and Nordisk Panorama Outlook. Since 1990 Nordisk Panorama has been ambulating between the five Nordic countries, and Filmkontakt Nord has organised the event in close cooperation with the five host cities Bergen, Aarhus, Oulu, Malmö and Reykjavík. From 2013 the festival has been anchored in Malmö, Sweden.

Glasgow Short Film Festival

Glasgow Short Film Festival, the largest competitive short film festival in Scotland, champions new film talent by providing an annual showcase and meeting point for new and established Scottish and international filmmakers, industry delegates and the local audience.

GSFF is a friendly and inclusive festival in which the work of emerging Scottish filmmakers is presented in the context of an international programme. We believe that international collaboration is vital for Scottish filmmakers. GSFF not only advocates the importance of short film in progressing future generations of filmmakers, but provides the meeting-place where collaboration can begin.

GSFF’s core programme comprises international and Scottish competitions. New talent is supported through a programme of learning and networking events, including panel discussions, workshops and one-to-one sessions. GSFF curates unique special programmes on particular movements or filmmakers of international importance, and hosts parties and live performances throughout the festival week.

Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia

Established in 1999; the festival is an annual international short film festival held in June in Tokyo; Japan. One of the Academy Award acrredited short film festivals.

Flickerfest International Short Film Festival

Now in its 24th year Flickerfest is an Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised Short Film Festival that screens under the stars each summer at Bondi Beach Sydney each January. Our festival celebrates excellence in creative short film making from across the world and is a platform for discovering the most talented new film makers of our generation.

Leuven International Short Film Festival

A few weeks before the year comes to a close; Leuven International Short Film Festival takes place in the beautiful midieval city of Leuven; Belgium. With lots of shorts; master classes; workshops and panel discussions;
Leuven Short Film Fest is the yearly ‘place to be’ in December for film professionals in the Benelux and abroad and is; as Academy Award Qualifying festival; the main Belgian gateway to one of the most renowned award ceremonies worldwide.
