FeKK – Ljubljana International Short Film Festival
Slovenia
festival
FeKK – Ljubljana Short Film Festival is Slovenia’s leading international festival dedicated exclusively to short film. Held annually in Ljubljana since 2015, the festival has established itself as a vital meeting point for filmmakers, industry professionals, critics, and audiences from Slovenia, the wider region, and beyond.
Founded by the Kraken Association for the Promotion of Short Film, FeKK was created to provide a stable platform for the presentation, promotion, and development of short cinema in Slovenia. Alongside its annual festival, the association runs year-round activities supporting short film culture through screenings, educational programmes, professional events, and international collaborations.
At the heart of the festival are its competition programmes, which showcase outstanding contemporary short films from Slovenia and, since 2026, across South Eastern Europe, reflecting the festival’s growing regional scope and commitment to fostering exchange within the wider cinematic landscape. Complementing the competitions is a carefully curated selection of thematic programmes, filmmaker retrospectives, historical screenings, experimental works, and special events that explore the richness and diversity of short-form cinema.
In 2026, FeKK also launched FeKKids, introducing dedicated children’s competition programmes for the first time and expanding the festival’s long-term commitment to audience development by engaging younger viewers with contemporary short films.
Beyond public screenings, FeKK offers a comprehensive industry programme featuring talks, workshops, networking events, and professional training opportunities that encourage collaboration between emerging and established filmmakers. The festival also hosts Short Scene, its international screenwriting workshop dedicated to the development of short film projects.
Over the past decade, FeKK has become an important regional platform for discovering new voices and supporting the circulation of short films. The festival actively collaborates with numerous international partners and is a member of several European and international networks, including initiatives supported by Creative Europe MEDIA, the European Short Film Audience Award (ESFAA) network, The END, and the Short Film Conference. Through these collaborations, FeKK contributes to strengthening the visibility, mobility, and professional ecosystem of short film across Europe.
