The cultural association AIACE VDA, founded in Aosta in 2020 with a strong community and social vocation, is composed by young cinephiles and cinema professionists that organizes screenings, events and workshops in order to spread the cinematic culture on the Aosta’s territory, welcoming ideas, sparks and visions from all over the world.
In 2024, after 4 years from its starting point, AIACE VDA associates created Bref – International Short Film Festival, the first festival completely dedicated to short films in Valle d’Aosta. From April 23 to 27th 2025, Bref arrived in Aosta with screenings, school matinées, workshops and masterclass to promote democratic and antifascist values through the big screen and to give a platform to young and emergent cinema giving big attention to representation and inclusivity in front, behind and on the screen. The dates of the festival are not chosen by chance: the week of April the 25th, Italian liberation day, express the will to keep alive the values of the Resistance welcoming stories that destroy the tallest walls, challenge every form of oppression, report every form of injustice, promote values such as equality and freedom and give positive examples of resistance and resilience

– International Short Film Competition: the competition is open to all short films (we accept animation, live-action and documentary, with no limitations on themes or genres).
– Creepshorts: dedicated to horror and fantastic cinema.
– MiniBref: a family-friendly program.
– Fight for your rights! : dedicated to films whose main subject revolves around the theme of resistance (this can be represented in various ways, including human and civil rights, feminism, antifascism, resilience, antispecism, and so on).
– Ciné-passage: dedicated to Francophone cinema.
– SuperBref: dedicated to short films with a runtime of less than 5 minutes.
– National program: dedicated to Italian short films.
The festival will have 4 different juries: Young jury, Technical jury, Animation jury and Critics jury.

– SAVT Award: worth €500, presented by the Syndicat Valdôtain des Travailleurs to the film that best explores issues related to the labor market and working life
– Bear With me award in partnership with Bear with me Distributions that will offer distribution strategy consultancy
– SuperBref Award for the best film under 5 minutes
– Creepshort award for the best film of the Creepshorts program in partnership with BloodStreamTV that will offer a streaming contract
– Resist! Award worth €500 for the best film that explores themes related to resistance
– FEDIC award for best Italian short

Alessia Gasparella
(Artistic director)
Born in Aosta in 1987, after graduating in Cinema Studies at DAMS Torino, she left Italy in order to continue her education in France. First in Besançon where she worked as a video reporter, then in Paris where she started as production and distribution assistant for a small independent company, Insolence Productions. After almost 2 years, she left the office to look for more active roles on film sets, specializing as unit manager and line producer. After almost a decade in the French capital and almost 40 projects between shorts, features and tv series, she decided to move back to Italy to build something more personal in her home town. In 2020 she founded AIACE VDA, a cultural association dedicated to promoting cinema, organizing screenings, workshops and training programs for schools and the citizenry. In 2024 she was among the founders of Red Sled Films where she works as film producer. 2025 is the year of the birth of Bref International Short Film Festival, where she works as artistic director and head programmer. Concurrently, she is associated programmer for Tribeca Festival, head programmer for the short films competition of TOHorror Film Fest and screener for SXSW Texas.
