Founded in 1998, FICCAB is one of Spain’s longest-running international short film festivals. Created to revive the spirit of the historic Benalmádena International Author Film Week (SICAB, 1969–1989), the festival is dedicated to promoting independent cinema, auteur filmmaking and emerging talent from around the world. Held annually in Benalmádena (Málaga, Spain), FICCAB presents an Official International Short Film Competition alongside curated retrospectives, tributes, thematic programmes and educational activities. The festival welcomes fiction, documentary and animation films, providing a platform for both established and emerging filmmakers. Every year, the festival receives more than 1,000 short film submissions from dozens of countries. FICCAB is committed to cultural diversity, international exchange and audience development, while maintaining free public access to most screenings and activities. Throughout its history, FICCAB has honoured internationally acclaimed filmmakers and artists, while continuing to support new voices in cinema through screenings, industry networking and educational initiatives.
