Part of Aspen Film’s annual series of events, Aspen Shortsfest is an Oscar-qualifying festival in the Colorado Rockies that is one of North America’s premiere showcases of new short films. The 2021 edition marks the festival’s 30th anniversary.

There is a juried competition that includes four Oscar-qualifying awards (Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Animation and Best Documentary). Additionally, Aspen Shortsfest awards prizes for Best Short Short (under 10 minutes) and Best Student Short as well as the Ellen Award, which is given by a special jury and named in honor of the festival’s founder. There is also an Audience Choice Award voted on by patrons.
